The Wedding Lament

synopsis

Four old friends from Salonika, a little before or a little after forty, meet again a few years into the marriage. The static camera follows their conversations, the probing into their erotic obsessions. For years they keep reliving the same scene. A mourning universe is revealed, a world of Greek women who are unable to grow older. Marriage is portrayed as an ascesis, an exercise of loneliness, humbleness, and ego extinction; very much like the rigorous practice of the ascetic nuns.
A surreal ethnographic journey into the solitary adventure of love.
